The former resident of Nida Art Colony
Rees Archibald will hold a noise workshop called "Touch some noise"
on the 19th of March at the National Gallery of Art in Vilnius.
During the workshop the artist will show how to make a microphone
by yourself and will conduct a group noise performance.
A contact microphone senses vibrations through solid objects
rather than through the air. The one-day workshop "Touch some
noise" will teach how to make your own contact microphone, then
work to develop ideas on how to use it, and finally take part in a
small sound performance using your sounds.
Once you build your microphone, we will give you a small amplifier
and speaker to attach to it, which you can then use to explore
sounds in the objects around you. These might be footsteps on the
floor, the sound of water in a glass, or the blowing of wind across
a piece of fabric. Finally, we will gather in a group to share our
sounds through a small performance event which we will organise
using stop watches.
Rees Archibald is a sound based artist from Australia who just
moved to Lithuania. Originally a saxophone player, he spent several
years in Japan studying traditional Zen music. Later, working with
composers Alvin Lucier, Ron Kuivila and David Behrman, he studied
electronic music composition.
