International Event "Accessible Arts: Museums, Communities and Socially excluded Groups"

For more information, please, visit www.menasgerovei.lt

Today the sector of culture is given responsibility to find ways to make the art accessible to the diversity of public. Museums, artists and cultural organisations can stimulate the social change and openness in the society, create conditions for people of different age and interests to explore cultural processes, to gather and participate in an activity of self-realisation. Moreover, role of cultural sector is of great importance in reducing social exclusion and building and strengthening communities.

International event "Accessibility to arts and community development" is focused on the concepts of accessibility, participation and community, questioning the ways how museums, cultural organisations and artists can contribute to building stronger ties with their audiences. Museums are aiming to become the centre of the community, cultural life, they also are positioning themselves as learning organisations which are open to all the groups of society. New forms of communication can help museums to engage with socially excluded people, suggesting ways how they could take part in cultural processes, to better acknowledge themselves and others through the art. Similarly individual or groups of artists can take a leading role in developing and strengthening communities. Artists, similarly a museum or cultural organisations, can become researchers investigating cases of social exclusion in societies.

In the event speakers from Lithuanian, Irish and Scandinavian museums will share their experience in access programming. Representatives of Lithuanian, British and Australian art and cultural organisations will share their work which is focused on socially excluded group and transformations in societies through communities' development.

Full program can be downloaded here.

The event is free, but registration is required. Registration ends on 7th June.
